Chongqing China | 2013

I have frequently  been on assignment in China, and have found a plethora of side shoots that work within the framework of my dystopic explorations. Case in point, Chongqing. A city of 40+million in which i spent a week in 2013. The main interest in Chongqing, and China in general is the documentation of rapid displacement and growth, and the associated issues surrounding the central government decisions to dictate the terms and conditions for this growth To this end, millions of people are displaced from rural villages into high density ghettos, where the local textures and personality of the inhabitants can quickly colour and otherwise bleak landscape. I’ve spent days exploring these rarely observed modern tenements. Despite the dystopic conditions these populations are dealt, life goes on...
